Time to change the rules
The Times reports today that 51% of American women are now living without a spouse. That includes yours truly, who has been wondering when the fuck is the government going to take these statistics into account for among other things, tax purposes. Because as of now, married couples get far more tax breaks than unmarried people, particularly unmarried women with children. America, particularly in the age of Bush, is still living in the fantasyland that everyone wants to and should be married, where all evidence in reality points to the contrary. For whatever reasons, it's not happening, and I only ask that the tax burden gets adjusted accordingly. But my intuition tells me, that this being the era of stupidity, closemindedness and idiotic "moral" values, this administration will do everything in its power to punish the marriage infidels. Wanna bet?
